The signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between the Government of Sudan and the Sudan Peoples' Liberation Movement (of the south) in 2005 is a momentous event that is missing from the list.

The Darfur crisis came after this event as did the unprecedented ICC indictment of a sitting Head of State.

The CPA brought the longest civil war in Africa to an end and allowed for a referendum on secession of the South in 2011.

2011 might therefore witness the emergence of a new country in Central Africa.

The hopes of the CPA were quickly dashed with the crisis in Darfur which the international media was quick to adopt - more people died in the civil war with the South...

The UN Security Council stated that it would punish parties who would not sign up to a peace agreement, and this was completely ignored with regards to AbdelWahid AlNur, the rebel leader who resides in...Paris and has refused to negotiate for peace.

The powers that be are biding their time until after the referendum in 2011 to 'resolve' the Darfur crisis according to their terms.
